I’ve been involved with some local activism around noise in our neighborhoods up here in northern Manhattan. Trying to convince people that their ears are precious, fragile creatures, that we are all precious, fragile creatures, who can’t take 100 decibels for hours on end, is a Herculean task. And it goes beyond “make it less loud”.
In Clamor – How Noise Took Over the World – and How We Can Take It Back author Chris Berdik imagines a sound world that is more responsive to our needs.
Fancy that!
