“Re-assembled and Embodied: Flute Music by Women in Parallel Empires”: Artist Residency @ University of Colorado, Colorado Springs
Designed together with flutist Jane Rigler, this project (funded by UCCS) develops an interdisciplinary flute performance and composition over several stages, exploring how we might reclaim flute compositions by women composers dismissed from the Western canon, by re-assembling them within contemporary, performative contexts, and addressing (and/or subverting) the concept of Empire, genius, and extraction in Western “art” music. This first stage of the collaboration focuses on Cecile Chaminade’s Sérénade aux Étoiles.
March 20-25, 2021 – Workshops with the UCCS classes, Sound Art and Creative Music Ensemble, developing student projects and analyses.
Sunday May 22, 2021 – World premiere – details to come!
