Single Release of “Hüzün Nar: The Gorgon Cycles” @ Bandcamp
Coinciding with a month of public performances, and in celebration of ongoing festival wins for animation film The Gorgon Cycles, the soundtrack Hüzün Nar: The Gorgon Cycles is being released as a single!
Composed + performed by Tessa Brinckman for alto flute and fixed media, it was recorded and mixed by Sean McCoy at Oregon Sound Recording. The cover art and images are by Miles Inada and Devyn McConachie, animators for the apocalyptic film The Gorgon Cycles (2023) which has Hüzün as the soundtrack.
Hüzün Nar (translated as “Fiery Melancholy” in Turkish and Arabic respectively) is a nod to both to Turkish novelist Orhan Pamuk’s memoir ,”Istanbul: Memories and the City” and Tessa’s travels to Istanbul in 2011. The music is inspired by city-wide calls to prayer, Turkish TV music shows, electronic dance music booming all night in the Old City, and the later protests in Taksim Square.
The trailer for The Gorgon Cycles can be viewed here. The score is also available for purchase to perform both with or without the film.
