Two things – as I’m pretty sure you need a song or two.

One – We met this water snake in one of the majestic falls of the Finger Lakes. We attended to each other for a good long time (you don’t need “ears” to listen) , before Snake sss-ed off into the riverbank. 

And Two – I just found this it’s-free-to-use-if-you-love-riverscollaboration by poet Robert MacFarlane and artist Nick Hayes. It’s in the tradition of a broadside ballad. Macfarlane is a wonderful poet and advocate for the beinghood of rivers and all its siblings.
